According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is Critically Endangered as it is known from one location that is experiencing ongoing population decline due to habitat degradation (von Staden, 2015). This genus is currently in demand and of popular interest in international horticultural trade, as indicated by several online marketplace, e-commerce and auction sites. Other species from this genus are known to be threatened by harvesting of wild individuals for horticultural purposes (Victor, 2005).

One known location and ongoing threat from habitat degradation makes this species highly vulnerable to further population loss and lower chances of recovery (von Staden, 2015). Were exploitation to also occur, recruitment and recovery may be poor.
