According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is Vulnerable as it is known from 10 locations that are experiencing population decline due to habitat degradation (Snijman & Raimondo, 2015). Other species of this genus are threatened by illegal collection of wild individuals (Snijman & Victor, 2007; Snijman & Victor, 2004). Plants of this genus were among those targeted and/or confiscated during recent criminal prosecutions of illegal plant collecting. This suggests that this genus may be targeted and that vulnerable species may be at risk.

Few known locations of occurrence with existing threat causing population decline (Snijman & Raimondo, 2015), makes this species vulnerable to further population loss. Were exploitation to also occur, recruitment and recovery may be poor.
