According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is Critically Endangered (Possibly Extinct) as it is known only from its type specimen whereby its habitat is experiencing transformation and degradation and is thought to likely be extinct but surveys are required to declare it so (Victor & Dold, 2007). This genus is currently in demand and of popular interest in international horticultural trade, as indicated by several online marketplace, e-commerce and auction sites. Other species from this genus are known to be threatened by harvesting of wild individuals for horticultural purposes (Victor, 2005).
