According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is Endangered as it is known from five locations and is experiencing population decline due to habitat degradation and collection of wild individuals for the specialist succulent trade (von Staden & van Wyk, 2015). Plants of this genus were among those targeted and/or confiscated during recent criminal prosecutions of illegal plant collecting.

This taxon has an extent of occurrence of 1036 km² and is known from five locations (von Staden & van Wyk, 2015).

Few known locations and several threats including exploitation makes this species vulnerable to further population loss. Recruitment and recovery may be poor.
