This species is potentially targeted as seen on online platforms and marketplaces. No particular South African species of the genus are known to be threatened by illegally collection. As this species is common and widespread, were exploitation to occur, recruitment and recovery may be possible.

According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is of Least Concern as it is widespread and common with no severe threats (Rebelo et al. 2019). This species is potentially targeted as seen on online platforms and marketplaces like iNaturalist and Ebay. No particular South African species of the genus are known to be threatened by illegally collection.

Mature (breeding) and immature individuals are not killed, are not significantly weakened (the harvesting methods do not do harm), and are not permanently removed from the wild.

This species has a fast population growth rate, and there is a good chance the wild populations will recover from exploitation.
