According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is Endangered as it is range restricted, known from five locations and is threatened with habitat degradation (Scott-Shaw & Raimondo, 2008). This genus is currently in demand and of popular interest in international horticultural trade, as indicated by several online marketplace, e-commerce and auction sites. Other species from this genus are known to be threatened by harvesting of wild individuals for horticultural purposes (Victor, 2005).

Range restriction and ongoing habitat degradation makes this species vulnerable to further population loss (Scott-Shaw & Raimondo, 2008). Were exploitation to also occur, recruitment and recovery may be poor.
