Assessor: Sarah Schumann
According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is Rare as it is range restricted and not threatened (Klak et al. 2006). This genus is currently in demand and of popular interest in international horticultural trade, as indicated by several online marketplace, e-commerce and auction sites. Plants of this genus were among those targeted and confiscated during recent criminal prosecutions of illegal plant collecting (Confiscation Lists (2019-2021) provided by SANParks Sendelingsdrift Botanic Garden, Karoo Desert Botanic Garden, Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden and Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment). This suggests that this genus is being targeted and that rare species may be at risk.

Range restriction and rarity (Klak et al. 2006) makes this species vulnerable to population loss. Were exploitation to occur, recruitment and recovery may be poor.
