Assessor: Sarah Schumann
According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is Vulnerable as it is known from few locations that are experiencing population decline due to habitat loss and degradation (von Staden, 2018). Another species of this genus is potentially threatened by illegal collection of wild individuals (Snijman & Victor, 2004). This genus is in demand and of popular interest in international horticultural trade, as indicated by several online marketplace, e-commerce and auction sites. Plants of this genus were among those targeted and/or confiscated during recent criminal prosecutions of illegal plant collecting (Confiscation List (2021) provided by Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden). This suggests that this genus may be targeted and that this species may be at risk.

Few known locations of occurrence with existing threats (von Staden, 2018), places the persistence of this species at risk. Were exploitation to also occur, recruitment and recovery may be poor.
