According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is Critically Rare as it is known from a single site that is not thought to be threatened (von Staden et al. 2006). Other species in this genus are known to be threatened by collection of wild individuals (von Staden et al. 2012; von Staden & Liltved, 2012).

Although this taxon is not thought to be threatened (von Staden et al. 2006), one known site of occurrence would potentially result in its entire population being harvested, placing this species at risk of extinction.
