According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is known from a single subpopulation whereby its habitat has been transformed via pine plantations and is not thought to be presently declining (McMurtry et al. 2012). Other species in this genus are known to be threatened by collection of wild individuals (von Staden et al. 2012; von Staden & Liltved, 2012).

This taxon is known from a single subpopulation of less than 250 mature individuals (McMurtry et al. 2012).
