According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is Critically Endangered as it has lost 80% of its population to habitat loss via agriculture in the past 70 years, whereby two subpopulations remain (Raimondo & Marinus, 2011). This genus is currently in demand and of popular interest in international horticultural trade, as indicated by several online marketplace, e-commerce and auction sites. Another species of this genus is known to be threatened with harvesting of wild individuals (Raimondo & Turner, 2006). Plants of this genus were among those targeted and/or confiscated during recent criminal prosecutions of illegal plant collecting. This suggests that this genus may be targeted and that endangered species may be at risk to over-exploitation.

Raimondo, D. & Marinus, E. 2011. Euryops virgatus B.Nord. National Assessment: Red List of South African Plants version 2020.1.
This taxon has two remaining subpopulations with an estimated population size of 602 individuals (Raimondo & Marinus, 2011).

Having lost 80% of its population and habitat with a small remaining population (Raimondo & Marinus, 2011), recovery would be poor if exploitation were also to occur.
