According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is Endangered as it is known from five locations and is experiencing ongoing population decline due to habitat loss from development and alien invasive plant encroachment (Raimondo & Goldblatt, 2006). This genus is currently in demand and of popular interest in international horticultural trade, as indicated by several online marketplace, e-commerce and auction sites. Another species of this genus is known to be threatened with harvesting of wild individuals (Victor & Duncan, 2010). Plants of this genus were among those targeted and/or confiscated during recent criminal prosecutions of illegal plant collecting. This suggests that this genus may be targeted and that endangered species may be at risk to over-exploitation.

This taxon has an extent of occurrence of less than 500 km² and is known from five locations (Raimondo & Goldblatt, 2006).

Few known locations and several threats causing population decline (Raimondo & Goldblatt, 2006), places the persistence of this species at risk. If exploitation were to also take place, recruitment and recovery would be poor.
