According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is of Least Concern as it is common, widespread and not thought to be threatened (Duncan & von Staden, 2019). This genus is currently in demand and of popular interest in international horticultural trade, as indicated by several online marketplace, e-commerce and auction sites. Another species of this genus is known to be utilized and collected from the wild for horticultural trade (Duncan et al. 2015). This species and several others of the Lachenalia genus were among those targeted and/or confiscated during recent criminal prosecutions of illegal plant collecting (Confiscation lists (2020-2022) provided by SANBI Karoo Desert Botanical Garden and Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden). This suggests that this genus may be targeted and that this species may be at risk to over-exploitation.
