According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is Vulnerable as it is known from 7-10 subpopulations that has lost an estimated 50% of its habitat to coastal development, agriculture and alien invasive plants whereby its is experiencing ongoing population decline from habitat loss (von Staden et al. 2011). Another species in this genus is known to be threatened by flower picking and collection of wild individuals (von Staden et al. 2006).

This taxon is known from between 7-10 subpopulations with an estimated population size of between 1000-4500 mature individuals whereby its full known range has not yet been surveyed and is declining (von Staden et al. 2011).
von Staden, L., Liltved, W.R., Oliver, E.G.H. & Oliver, T.A. 2011. Satyrium princeps Bolus. National Assessment: Red List of South African Plants version 2020.1.
Few known subpopulations with past and ongoing existing threat causing population decline (von Staden et al. 2011), makes this species vulnerable to further population loss. Were exploitation to also occur, recruitment and recovery may be poor.
