According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is Vulnerable as it is known only from its type locality and is potentially threatened by livestock trampling and grazing (Kurzweil et al. 2005). Another species in this genus is known to be threatened by flower picking and collection of wild individuals (von Staden et al. 2006).

One known locality with existing potential threat (Kurzweil et al. 2005), places the persistence of this species at risk. Were exploitation to also occur, recruitment and recovery may be poor.
