According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is Rare as it is range restricted and not thought to be threatened (Victor, 2004). An internet survey of online market places indicated that this genus is not very popular in trade and that there is little demand. However plants of this genus have been confiscated from illegal plant collecting (Confiscation lists (2019-2021) provided by SANParks Sendelingsdrift Botanic Garden). Several species of this genus are potentially threatened by harvesting of wild individuals for horticultural trade (Victor, 2004; von Staden, 2014).
