According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is Critically Rare as it is rare, poorly known and not thought to be threatened (von Staden, 2016). This genus is currently in demand and of popular interest in international horticultural trade, as indicated by several online marketplace, e-commerce and auction sites. Other species from this genus are known to be threatened by harvesting of wild individuals for horticultural purposes (Victor, 2005).

This species is only known from its type collection, is suspected to be rare and its population status is unknown as it occurs in remote, poorly explored areas (von Staden, 2016).

A small population size makes this species vulnerable to further population loss. Were exploitation to occur, recruitment and recovery may be poor.
