Assessor: Sarah Schumann
According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is Vulnerable as it is known from less than 10 locations and is experiencing population decline due to habitat degradation and illegal collection of wild individuals for the succulent plant trade as well as potentially threatened with habitat loss (Vlok et al. 2019). This genus is currently in demand and of popular interest in international horticultural trade, as indicated by several online marketplace, e-commerce and auction sites. Other species of this genus are known to be traded. This may threaten vulnerable species of this genus with collection and removal from the wild.

Vlok, J.H., Raimondo, D. & Milton, S.J. 2019. Pleiospilos bolusii (Hook.f.) N.E.Br. National Assessment: Red List of South African Plants version 2020.1.
Whole individuals are removed from the wild.
A declining population size with existing threats makes this species vulnerable to further population loss. Recruitment and recovery from harvesting may be poor.
