According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is Endangered as it is range restricted, known from three locations and is experiencing population decline due to habitat degradation as well as potentially threatened with illegal harvesting of wild individuals for horticultural purposes (Klak et al. 2008).

This taxon has an extent of occurrence of less than 250 km² and is known from three locations (Klak et al. 2008).

Few known locations of occurrence with existing threats including harvesting makes this species vulnerable to further population loss. Recruitment and recovery from harvesting may be poor.
