According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is Rare as it is known from less than 10 subpopulations and is not thought to be threatened (Helme & Victor, 2007). This genus is in demand and of popular interest in international horticultural trade, as indicated by several online marketplace, e-commerce and auction sites. Recently this species and several others of the Adromischus genus have been illegal harvested (Confiscation List (2018-2021) provided by Cape Nature SANBI Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden and Karoo Desert Botanical Garden). This suggests that this genus is being targeted and that this species may be threatened.

Rarity and few subpopulations makes this species vulnerable to population loss. Recruitment and recovery from harvesting may be poor.
