According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is Rare as it is range restricted and not thought to be declining (Raimondo et al. 2011). Other species in this genus are known to be utilized for honey bush tea and are threatened by collection of wild individuals (Mei, 2016; Vlok & Raimondo, 2011). Rare species may be at risk.

The population growth rate is unknown. Population size is likely to be limited by suitable habitat. As this taxon does not have a vulnerable population size and it is not thought to be threatened, were exploitation to occur, recruitment and recovery may be possible.
