According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is Rare as it is range restricted and not thought to be threatened as it is locally common and occurs within a protected area (Raimondo & Schutte-Vlok, 2011). Other species in this genus are known to be utilized for honey bush tea and are threatened by collection of wild individuals (Mei, 2016; Vlok & Raimondo, 2011). Rare species may be at risk.

This taxon has an extent of occurrence of 460 km² and is known to be locally common (Raimondo & Schutte-Vlok, 2011).
