According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is Critically Endangered as it is known from a single small subpopulation and is not thought to be threatened as its habitat is managed as a protected area (Bytebier & von Staden, 2015). Other species in this genus are known to be threatened by collection of wild individuals (von Staden et al. 2012; von Staden & Liltved, 2012).

This taxon is known from a single subpopulation of 30 mature individuals (Bytebier & von Staden, 2015).

Single point endemics are highly vulnerable to population loss and were exploitation to occur, recovery may be poor.
