According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is Vulnerable as two known locations are potentially threatened with harvesting of wild individuals for the specialist succulent horticultural trade as well as habitat loss (Burgoyne & Daniels, 2005). An internet survey indicated that this genus is not very popular in trade and that there is little demand.
