According to the SANBI Red List Assessment, this species is Rare as it is known from few subpopulations that are not thought to be threatened (Victor, 2009). Other species in this genus are known to be threatened by collection of wild individuals (von Staden et al. 2012, von Staden & Liltved, 2012).

This taxon is known from six subpopulations (Victor, 2009).

As this species is thought to have a stable population and not threatened (Victor, 2009), were exploitation to occur, recruitment and recovery my be possible.
